I am using the Baermann technique to isolate protostrongylid larvae from fecal samples. After completing the Baermann procedure, I want to preserve the samples in formalin for quantification at a later date. Ideally, when I return to count larvae, I would like to decant much of the liquid to reduce the volume of liquid that must be processed. However, I am unsure whether the larvae will still sink to the bottom of the storage vial if in formalin solution.
