In our lab we have oxidized a solution containing 2ppm of Cr3+ and 2ppm of cr6+. Before oxidation we have analysed the sample we got the absorbance for 2ppm in spectrophotometer. After that we have oxidized the solution with KMno4 ( As per IS 3025 part 52). After oxidation we have analysed the sample for that we have got absorbance for only 3 ppm concentration. Not only for this sample, for all the samples we have oxidized we are getting the same issue. What may be the reason for that and how to overcome that problem.
Shobana... First are you sure of the electrochemistry: Mn(VII) is the right oxidant for Cr(III)? The stoichiometry is important and the redox potential and equilibrium must well be checked. At the ppm level, the redox equilibrium need to be checked. The oxidized Cr never escapes!!! Good luck
