I am looking for the best SSR markers in order to assess genetic relationships among 35 date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) representing common cultivars grown in Jericho regions in Palestine.
hello walid, I think RAPD would be more easily to differentiate among date palm species or subspecies. and the universal primers are available on research papers. good luke
SSR and SNP markers have been applied to detect cultivars. The advantages of SSRs over SNPs, include relative ease of transfer between closely related species and high allelic diversity. On the contrary, SSRs when compared to SNPs have some limits: the development phase is quite long and expensive for multilocus assays and the throughput is relatively low because of drawbacks for automation and output data management. Recently, progresses in the development of multilocus assays have been made in several directions, suggesting that SSR markers still remain as relevant molecular tools at least for specific applications and genetic studies.
