I am interested in aquired resistance upon Tamoifen and Fulvestrant in hormoe responsive breast cancer. I work basically with MCF7 cells, but also T47D and ZR 75-1 , all ER positive.
When people grow cells in the presence of a drug to create a resistant cell line, I red that they use steroid free MEdium (I suppose Phenol free Medium and stripped Serum).
But couldn't that influence the teh resistance development? in a negative way?
In our body a resistance would also develope in the presence of the hormones, that might compete with the drugs for the receptor, or whatever effect they have and we dont know yet,....we would exclude this in vitro if depleting the growing Medium of the hormones, right ?
