Studies suggest that we must not use cutting fluids while machining fiber reinforced composites. However, what are the reasons for that? Some studies say that the fluid is trapped and causes the matrix to soften and may increase cracks or damages. But are there any paper suggestion which actually says about the surface integrity that is, do the surface roughness also get affected due to usage of these fluids?
I don't know if there are any technical papers on the subject, but I've seen it done and know this to be the case, based on experience at a manufacturing facility in Aalborg and one in Munich. Machining these products is a very difficult process and not many can do it effectively. Even if the result looks good, that doesn't mean that it won't quickly fall apart when placed in service. I know that from a facility in Bremen that had to change their operation.

Chinaza Godswill Awuchi I have gone through all these papers. However, they all are using the data for a long term analysis. None of the papers are saying about the effect of the fluids while machining. Why they don't prefer fluid while machining? That actually is my concern. Thank you for your valuable time.
These materials are readily available as are bench grinders, sanding disks, cement drill bits, and circle cutters. Why not try to work with some pieces yourself? I think you will see that for some materials dry working is better while wet working is better for others.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have already performed some preliminary experiments. However, still wanted to know if some of the outcomes that I observed are already there in literature so that I will be able to prove that. There are a lot of papers available on the long term drawbacks of using coolants. Though I am performing the experiments, I still wanted to know about the available literature to understand in a better way. Thank you.
