We simultaneously incubated soils under long-term manure and fertilizer application at the same condition. The soil carbon concentration and soil respiration per soil (ug CO2-C g-1 soil hr-1) was higher for manure application than under inorganic fertilizer application. However, soil respiration per soil carbon (ug CO2-C g-1 C hr-1) was lower under manure application than under inorganic fertilizer application in the paddy field, but on the contrary for the dry-land. What does this trend mean? Is it suggested that manure application in the paddy field results in higher soil carbon stability than inorganic fertilizer application? Is it suggested that manure application have better outcome for carbon sequestration in the paddy field than the dry-land? Why does this trend occur? Because of negative priming effect in the paddy field?
