I have performed the seismic analysis on steel structure. After that some parts have been yielded and some are not.
Now, in case of yielding, the von misses stresses are not coming back to zero? Why
In Linear case, the stresses are back to zero.
Why this ?

When a section yields (except in pure tension or compression, theoretically), either fully or partially, there will be residual tensile and compressive stresses over the cross-section balancing each other. You can easily test this by assuming a completely yielded rectangular (or I) section with elastic perfectly-plastic material. Assuming a positive moment, all the fibers above the plastic neutral axis have stresses equal to the negative (compressive) yield stress, and those below the plastic neutral axis have positive (tensile) ones. Now if the section unloaded (imposing the same moment in reverse), which would be a linearly (because of assuming EPP material) elastic phenomenon, and sum the stress distributions of both cases, you'll see there are positive and negative residual stresses over the cross-section. As a result of such stresses, the von Mises stress would not be zero.
