It is suggested in the recent literature that though sex differences in normal brain can clearly be defined, sex differences in epilepsies are not always clear or quite difficult to investigate. How it can be explained that Why the sex differences in epilepsies are not easy to be investigated?
Measuring individual differences in healthy individuals is quite troublesome in general because of a range of methodological issues. See a recent paper attached - this tackles the commonest culprits in individual differences research. Many if not all should apply to epileptic patients too.

Sex differences in neuropsychological tasks are usually related to spatial memory. This cognitive function depends on the medial temporal lobe integrity, a very epileptogenic part of the brain. Therefore, many epileptic patients show spatial memory disturbances and both men and women performed poorly with big dispersion in their scores. Thus, gender differences disappeared accordingly. At least, this is what we found in our studies. Good luck with your research ;-)
