I have found many papers where 2D quantum materials (charge density wave, topological superconductivity,...) materials are deposited on bilayer graphene to study their properties. I don't understand why it is specially bilayer graphene not monolayer graphene?

Hi, This may be because graphene sheets less than 20 nanometers in size are thermodynamically unstable, as the minimum stability of graphene is when the number of atoms is greater than 6,000 atoms; And 24,000 atoms are needed to stabilize fluorine. This is very important in the molecular dynamics of systems, because results obtained at less than 20 nanometers may not be accurate.
Depending on the graphene synthesis method, or due to the inability to make single-layer graphene or to increase the thermodynamic stability of the obtained graphene, these two layers may have been made.
On the other hand, increasing the graphene layers from 20 to 30 layers increases its thermal conductivity.

Maybe the explanation is due the huge reactivity observed in doped monolayer graphene materials, so it is not expected to be easy to synthesize, although it is very attractive because it is a metallic system, then in order to reduce the surface formation energies of the substitutional defects produced by dopants, investigators works on the formation of interlayer bonds in doped bilayer graphene materials for major stabilities.
