During sleep, neuronal waste seems to be exported to CSF and removed from the parenchyma, which is important for proper brain functioning. Some studies seem to associate sleep deprivation to neurodegeneration. We do not know much about the mechanisms associating these two factors, but its association seems very important. I believe it is a matter of time until the molecular mechanisms altered by sleep deprivation are unveiled.

Regarding the importance of sleep. A natural dream is one of the attributes of a modern person's life. In a dream, the information obtained earlier is consolidated. On the basis of new information, new conditions arise for the manifestation of cognitive activity when falling asleep: in a dream the scientist opens up a periodic system of elements, the chemist opens the formula for a new element, the mathematician solves an unsolvable problem.
I wish everyone a sound sleep for new discoveries.
