It would limit the researcher's thinking in many ways. It is one of the ramifications of "get answers quick" and fast pace state of affairs these days. When I was doing my dissertation in the 1980's we had no Internet or Google search. We would ask the university librarian to submit a request for search. We had to be really clever in coming up with the right key words. A week later we would get an output of relevant paper titles. Based on reading through the titles and assessing its true relevancy to your current work one would submit a request for full length articles which had to be requested via Inter-library loan which took another 3-4 weeks!
