While connecting a watt meter for power measurement in the circuit, we need to short M & C terminals of it externally. If watt meter is designed to measure power itself only, then why does the manufacturer short M & C terminals internally?
Could you tell us the whole connections of the watmeter? In principle the watmeter must sense the voltage across the load and the current flowing through the load without disturbing them. Then multiplies them and averages the the instantaneous power to get the effective power in the load. So, either you have to consult the manual of the instrument and or show the other all connections of your watmeter to discuss the matter with you. May be the instrument is multipurpose. That it may be used to measure current only, voltage only or power.
