Dear companions, this week i have been reading an article wich explains the etiopathogenesis of status epiletpicus, the doi for that article is 10.1111/vec.12605, in this paper, there`s explained the neurone regulation and the mechanism wich fails in control the normal electric activity when a convulsion lead to SE, even if those mechanisms are still unknown.

That made me realize about ketamine as NMDA antagonist which lead to calcium and sodium channels blockade, also have an activity lowering the releasing of glutamate wich is excitatory in the central nervous sistem.

So can it mean that using ketamine could put a brake in the expansion of the epileptic focuses by controling the ion fluxes?

Also i found interesting the rol of the efflux of potassium in the despolarization. For that cause i also wanted to know if putting insuline could help with the control of SE patient in the first phase when there is also hiperglycemia.

Greetings and thanks in advance.
