I am doing a modelling of caster of continuous casting process. I am using energy equation, k-episilon and solidification/melting model simultaneously.
my b.c are -
inlet temp(at velocity inlet). - 851 k and +ve velocity
outlet temp(also taken as velocity inlet) - 300 k and -ve velocity
liquidous and solidous temp. - 821 k
my problem is that my model is not showing the solidification/melting in the model.
anyone know why is it not showing that?
please guide me.....
I think your model might be a simplified model. If you want to analys your model 3D, you have to develope the model through basic equations.
cfd and solidification are both complicated and getting integral solution is still complicated. We have limited understanding of solidification. We consider a planar interface and fluid flow in liquid to occur by diffusion only. Then we solve the equation for solute profile by solution of diffusion equations either in steady state or non-steady state conditions. The solute profile and the superimposed temp. gradient provides information for constitutional supercooling first solved by Bruce chalmer's.. In CC the interface is never planar-it breaks down to cells or dendrites. The solute transport in liquid ahead interface and in the mushy zone both may occur by convection. Then solution of solute profile is a problem in itself. In mushy zone , if dendrires form they have tortuous structure, if cells form they have different configuration of solid -liquid distribution in mushy zone. What will be then nature of the fluid flow in such configuration of dendrites and cellular solidification structure of mushy zone and also the melt ahead interface?. Experiments have shown that when dendrites spacing is calculated using diffusive model the primary arm spacing is more that two times larger than that measured experimentally wherein fluid flow is inevitable in terrestrial condition. This difference is blamed on convection which has not been correctly modeled.
we develop solidification models both for Fluent and open-source codes, and everything works. So if you do not get the solid phase formed in your case you probably have to check your boundary conditions, perhaps you bring to much superheat in your system so the solidification cannot simply start. other reasons could be mesh resolution and if you didn't convert your mesh from mm to meters.
Thank you for reply i have already done the above case in 2-d with same boundary conditions and i have got the solidification and melting and other profile in 2-d but i am not getting that in 3-d.
the problem is that temp. is not going into the domain it stays on the inlet .
