Now there are many Superluminescent Diode with a 3dB bandwidth of about 100 nm on sale. And they also provide SLD modules with a 3dB bandwidth of about 400 nm, by combining 4 SLDs, which is much more larger in scale than the SLD itself. It means that there are needs for such wide bandwidth SLD sources.
Is it possible to integrate 4 SLDs or more into 1 SLD, to get one with 400 nm bandwidth or broader, meanwhile the scale is only a little larger or remains the same? If possible, why is that there is no one producing such SLDs?
Apparently, such devices were not in demand in practice.

But in my opinion, if such devices were not in demand in practice, the company should not have supplied devices combining 4 SLDs. After combining, only one quarter power left. For OCT, one of the main application, broader bandwidth increases resolution. So I guess that there must be some reason.
IMHO I think that finding a gain material with the required bandwidth and efficiency is the main challenge here.

I don't know the detail of producing SLDs. In my opinion, the material for SLDs with peaks at, for example, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 um may be the same, just with different component ratios. If so, it is possible the integrate the 4 SLDs into one. I am not talking about a broad spectrum of more than 100 nm from one cavity.
