According to 2006 WHO data on "global injury mortality by cause", number one cause of mortality is road traffic (22.8%) and the second one is suicide (16.9%) and the third is violence (10.8%).

There are many reasons for suicide. However, it is a very short mood change. If a person can be occupied for 15 min or so the urge may change. here is our take on the issue:

In 1897, Emile Durkheim wrote very extensive thesis on the suicide. I think still some of the facts mentioned by Durkheim is valid. Accordingly, the societal system is largely responsible for this. Further, the distinctive characteristic of suicides, is not that the act is performed intentionally, but rather that it is performed advisedly.
