thanks a lot for your work; I read carefully your articles but, as we know, there are vaccines discovered only for mice or monkeys or other non-human primates.

Why, I asked myself, both mice and monkey can be resistant to Ebola Virus and humans cannot?

A phase one trial started in December 2014. The drug was effective in Ebola-infected monkeys. Brincidofovir, an antiviral drug, has been granted an emergency FDA approval as an investigational new drug for the treatment of Ebola after it was found to be effective against Ebola virus in in vitro tests.

To start up the discussion, I just want to drop down an insight to what Bioterrorism is. Bioterrorism is defined as a biological attack where there is an intentional release of viruses, bacteria, or other germs that can sicken or kill people, livestock, or crops. This spread or release can likely cause a civil and economic unrest. Bioterrorism can either be classified as overt or covert. In overt bioterrorism, the impact will be immediate and there will be early recognition of the event, generally by emergency response personnel. In Covert bioterrorism, these events carry more of a challenge in which clinical microbiologists and physicians will most likely be the first to suspect the attack. During covert bioterrorism, the recognition and as well as the response could possibly be delayed which allows the disease to disseminate throughout the population. With these being said, we can consider that Ebola virus is an Overt bioterrorism because it was first introduced in Zaire by patient treated at a village hospital for a bloody nose then transmitted nosocomial and via contact with infected individuals at home.

Ebola Virus is from Family Filoviridae, Genus Ebolavirus and specie Zaire. Ebola is considered to be BSL 4 (Biosafety Level 4) because it is transmitted by the respiratory route, have a very high risk of serious disease, and have no available treatment or vaccines. This is where the question is raised, “Why is it hard to find a vaccine for Ebola Virus? “. This is because of its pathogenicity and fatality rate of 90% that makes it a dangerous nature and is therefore difficult to study. According to Derek Gatherer, a bioinformatics researcher at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom who studies virus genetics and evolution, said that Antiviral therapy has lagged behind antibacterial therapy for decade. Antiviral vaccines became complicated and hard to formulate. Part of this virus is the ability to develop new strains or undergo Antigenic shift and drift, single vaccine may not protect all human organism (may it be for future use) and clinical trials involves a large animal or human reservoirs. Only few people are able to survive the virus and thus making it hard to study in people or examines. And because the virus is so dangerous, microbiologists or researchers must work with the virus in special facilities. A high-level safety precautions laboratory is needed, and since there are only few laboratories with this level, it limits the number of experiments that can be done. The government must allot a large amount of money for this to push through.
