I am an Art student who is going to be studying Mass Media & Communication this semester. I truly need some answers to clarify this as i begin to research more into it myself. Help a Friend!!! "Knowledge ids divided before it can be multiplied."
The best artist to examine in the context of mass media and communication is Andy Warhol. Warhol used 'ready made objects' and reappropriated them into the context of art. Another artist to examine in this context is Marcel Duchamp. I am sure you will discuss Warhol and Duchamp in your course. An interesting essay to examine is 'Art in the Mechanical Age of Reproduction' by Walter Benjamin. This essay is brilliant and speaks about how art changed dramatically with the advent of photography. You could refer to this essay in light of new works of art in Mass Media re video and digital art that can be mass produced but are now getting millions for the first time in art history. Best of luck with your subject~
Media content creation has a significant element of art. Writing is an artistic process. Advanced video projects seek to create a mood and tell a nuanced story, which are artistic things. Good photography tells a story and produces a strong reaction from the viewer.
There are many business aspects to mass communication, but creating the content itself is a creative, artistic process.
