Why Glutathione-redox reaction is necessary for in-vitro protein refolding?

Many protein refolding protocols describe the use of glutathione oxidized and reduced in the protein refolding step after solublization of over-expressed protein in the form of inclusion bodies.

What is the mechanism for this reaction?
