The DPPH assay is a common and simple method to measure the antioxidant activity of a substance. The DPPH assay is based on the reduction of a purple-colored radical, DPPH, to a colorless product by receiving a hydrogen atom from an antioxidant. The change in color can be monitored by measuring the absorbance at 517 nm.

The DPPH assay does not require expertise because it is easy to perform, fast, and reliable. The assay only involves mixing the sample with the DPPH solution and measuring the absorbance after a certain time. The assay does not need sophisticated equipment or reagents, and the results can be compared with standard antioxidants.
