I have collected effluent sample from the equalization tank of a Textile Dyeing factory ETP. I found TDS- 3000 ppm, pH-11, COD-900 ppm, TSS nearly zero. I have filtrated with 0.45 micron filter and almost no residue retained on the filter paper. I have tried for coagulation with Alum, Ferrous Sulfate, Ferric Chloride separately but no coagulation occurred. I found some flocks when I tried with lime and the mentioned coagulants but removal of color is not significant. At present the ETP is running with Activated Sludge process and performance is satisfactory (including color removal). If I want to chemically treat the effluent, what to do?

if you want to treat wastewater from dying industry chemically, you need at first know what kind of dyes do they use. I mean what the dyes are chemically. Accordimng to chemical characteristic of dyes you can decide for chemical treatment of wastewater.

Thanks Mr. Vit. Our situation is such that some times it become very difficult to find out information form the production section of the factories. So, we have to depend on trial and error process to identify appropriate coagulant. I have run several trials and I found good coagulation using huge amount of lime (1000 ppm) with the effluent then either ferrous sulfate or Alum or Ferric chloride (500 ppm). After that addition of ploy electrolyte developed good flock.
