I have synthetised different batches of chitosan nanoparticles under different cconcentrations, and all the samples exhibits an hydrodynamic size between 190 - 400 nm. But, when I tried to measure the zeta potential, the graph show many little peaks, kcps values very low (lower than 10 kcps), and a neutral value of zeta potential (around 0 mV) when the expected value should be around 25-30 mV considering the cationic properties of chitosan.
Dear Dr Gustavo Ruiz-Pulido . The most important factor that affects zeta potential is the pH of the medium. Other factors include ionic strength, the concentration of any additives, and temperature. Gustavo Ruiz-Pulido Please post an example dts file. I, and others, can look at important information to try to understand the issue.
Maybe the pH of the medium is allowing chitosan to crosslink itself and making microgels/aggregates. I would suggest you to make the pH lower in order to make all the chitosan chain in an polyelectrolyte state and prevent all kind of interactions due to the NH3+ Groups among the chain.
I agree, it could be a pH issue. Posting a file could help in exploring the problem.
