For the sake of discussion, consider plant viruses as one of two types - obligately insect vectored or vector neutral (I'm sure better terms exist, but I don't know them). Are there common features of each type that enforce this division in ease of transmission?

Has anyone here had success in manually inoculating a plant with a virus thought to be "obligately insect vectored"?
