I am working with copper nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are producing Cu2+ ions in PBS. I want to know that whether these ions release is somehow related to the loss of conduction electrons from metal nanoparticle surface, as these electrons are lost to oxygen to form ROS?
PBS is isotonic buffer, pH7.4. In this solution copper nanoparticles are oxidized by oxygen, which is in solution. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a phrase used to describe a variety of molecules and free radicals (chemical species with one unpaired electron) derived from molecular oxygen. These molecules and radicals will also promote the oxidation of copper nanoparticles. There are works in which intense sunlight daytime inhibits the oxidation of Cu nanoparticles and promotes ROS.
Thankyou Mr. Mirgorad, but Sir I wanted to ask whether Cu2+ release in PBS and ROS generation in PBS from copper nanoparticles are interlinked. As the former is produced due to loss of electrons and the later is produced due to gain of electrons..
If copper is oxidized in CuO или Сu2O, then there will be no copper ions in the solution.
