I was doing a blank test using DMF as solvent by heating it at 130 C. Within half an hour the colour of the solvent changes from colourless to brown colour. Is there any particular reason for this? Any property of DMF is getting changed? If so, why?
The boiling point of DMF is around 153-54 degree centigrade, so i don't think it is showing any signs of thermal stress. For property change or change in structure you can always do an FTIR of that sample and match it with the original(initial). Btw what happens when you cool it down again to room temperature? Does it retain the brown colour or comes back to being colourless ?
