Do you think Montessori schools are more effective than public schools? Why?
I am writing from a US perspective as a parent and educator. You are comparing philosophies of trying to find methodologies to large amounts of students versus smaller class sizes. Montessori methods are equally applicable in both settings but public school aims for averages instead of individualized focus when measuring outcomes. As a result, Montessori remains a private school approach. The US has come up with a mid-ground approach called a "charter school". These are community schools with either lottery or competitive entry that are publicly funded but remain small. As such, they can incorporate alternative emthods of teaching that reduce reliance on reaching averaged goals and far less reliance on homework. Team teaching blends a topic across individual class lines, eg, a common theme across math, history and science. This is reminiscent of Montessori that emphasises how all approaches to education teaches various aspects of the same topic.

Kindergarten is seen in public education as the first year of ‘real’ school. In traditional preschool, children begin to learn basics like colors, letters, and numbers. However, many children come to kindergarten without attending preschool, so kindergarten begins by introducing these concepts to all children.
