Learning is a process by which individuals appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes, which then allow you to develop skills at different levels. It is common to think that teaching is the same as learning, but they are not intrinsically linked. Learning occurs even in the absence of teaching. This implies several current problems in education, since teachers are not able to understand that what we understand by teaching, implies a different process to learn, and believe that by the simple fact of explaining a topic, the student has already learned .
As for what we should understand by modern learning, I think it has to do with the search for new actions that students can take to appropriate what they are wanting to learn. The concept of modern, should be taken as that which is opposed to the old or classical and established. Therefore, I insist that modern learning implies the use of innovative ways through which the individual appropriates what he wants to learn.
There is so much knowledge available, both analogue and digital these days. When is enough actually enough? Modern learning is enabled by a huge variety of resources and clever tools and different methods of using them, but it hasn't changed much in essentials. I find real learning only happens for me when I am very actively involved and really interested in what I am doing. I think modern learning is assisted by being able to sift data quickly; remain quite objective and critical in establishing what you wish to learn, then use the knowledge until you own it, before it becomes inert! It is more than ever before a pragmatic exercise.
