The ability of the teacher to discover the intelligence power of the students early in a semester (within 1-2 weeks) is important for tailoring a suitable teaching-learning process. The university students, I taught in the 1980s, were much more intelligent than today's students & this has obliged for adaptation.

I agree with Marwan! The list you gave us is rather a product of the "analytic philosophy". Intelligence should be a "holistic" entity, and synthesise all that are required to confront the dangers and problems of life. All humans have these "intelligences" in various degrees.   

Without those nine characteristics, a person is nothing but a parrot in a classroom. Teaching is to create a need of changing in another person who was thinking to have all the skills he needed before the teaching section and help the student with skills or to create those skills by themselves.

The extent to which the various intelligences can be used depends on the subject. I think that teaching and learning through Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences helps solve many common school problems and improves the learning experience for students and teachers.

Teachers can use MI by using more variations of classroom activities to make students to learn using all areas of intelligence that are appropriate to a subject.

Students learning improves by speaking and discussing freely, learning by seeing and acting, and using their undiscovered intelligence fields.

Education efficiency of teacher intelligence types (probably more than 9) will depend on students' intelligence types, or not?

Exemple:

Teacher may be expert in language-based intelligence types, but if the students do not understand the languages they perceive, teachers education efficiency efficiency = zero? 

i believe we have to adapt our different comprehensive intelligence with attention and sensibility, to every different group of students.

I have noticed that the same subject is usually taught in totally different ways to different students. I have to adapt my speach, moment by moment, as I look at the audience. And their different answers and approaches to same subject conduct my speach. (I teach Anatomy which is a boring, rigid subject, and I adapt and modulate, even the summary and content uisually changes to adapt each group of different students. What matters is the overalll good result to obtain..)

can be, but we already had here some discussions about the simultaneous ability for research and teaching. Your "experts" better stop their lectures or should visit some lectures about didactics.

It is inclusive ...... many types of intelligence and skills... . Along with these, a teacher must be a good human being, a decent mentor and a model for students.

The intelligence in our schools and uni classes is how to keep the student silent and listen to what you say. The most important is how to draw their attention to do their tasks.

I think in a good teacher most of these types of intelligence are present but the teacher who develops and dedicates to one of the intelligence that person can become a good teacher in that particular branch.if you go to the Ancient Literature these nine Intellegence are the part of every humanbeing but the only need is of awareness,development and dedication to one to become a good Teacher in one.

Teaching is one of the most noble jobs for humanity. For this process to be successful various factors should be considered.  One of the important factors is the types of intelligence of the teacher. Humans are different in nature and we all have various types of intelligence with different levels of strength and weakness.  Teaching  is an interaction process between the teacher and the student while considering the subject. So we can never judge the kind of intelligence needed without considering the other factors. One of the most important points is understanding the student skills and type with respect to learning and to introduce the best match to this student. One of the most important intelligence types that is definitely required is emotional intelligence. If the teacher is successful to make his students love the subject he/she can get out the best of them. 

I have some problems with the term intelligence of teachers. For me all the points you mentioned are features and knowledge as well as an adopted behaviour to the acute teaching situation. First of all, teaching is a pedagogic craft. So I would prefer to discuss the different teaching techniques and not some obscure "intelligences".

WHAT IS MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES?

Teachers should  encourage students to use all kinds of intelligence.  Also teachers need to recognize and teach to a broader range of talents and skills that depend on a variety of intelligences and to start identifying their own intelligence profiles so that they can determine their best or preferred teaching strategies.

Dear Amir, thanks for the response. But to be honest, don´t you think that the claim of intelligence is a little bit to overestimated for a pedagogic craft. Teachers do a good job, if they recognize the abilities of their pupils and students. The don´t explode from IQ.

I agree. The teacher of adults must have empathy, interest and feeling for the people and teaching as much as the expertise in the subject being taught. Knowing what not to do is as important as what to do in teaching adults.

While all (intelligences) are important and are, from my pointof view crucial in creating lessons/unit/conceptual plans from a MI reference point is vital I would pose that Intra-personal Intelligence is by far the most important for a teacher to possess. Meaning, as a teacher, creating any classroom learning environment self knowledge, awareness, confidence, inventiveness, and self reflection are the cornerstones of the building process. I would submit without the listed qualities of intra-personal intelligence students perceptions of the teacher are questionable at best leading to may learning and classroom issues.

I agree with all the topics raised by others and my only contention is that without knowledge of and confidence of/in one's self the other qualities of intelligence could be made mute by the students attitudes and behaviors toward the teacher in question.
