I prepared Gold nanoparticles capped with thiol. The nanoparticles are not soluble in aqueous solution, but I need them to at least disperse in water. So I think adding a secondary surfactant which interacts with thiol and leaves a hydrophilic head pointing to water might be a good idea. I did literature searches but turned out fruitless. So anyone can help me on this? Thanks so much!
By the way I used 1-dodecanethiol as the capping agent.
Not sure if 3-APTMS is a good idea. It is used for modification caused by condensation reaction with hydroxyl groups rather than with thiol. And as i've understood the aim is not in chemical modification rather than in physical interaction. And after all this hydrophilic NH2- group in APTMS will interact at the same time with SH- and not only going in to water. By going in to water it will actually at the end produce polysiloxane crosslinked gel in which your nanoparticles probably will be capped, so dont go with it if this is not what you are aiming.
Gold nanoparticles form a covalent isulfide bond with your coverage. Therefore, modification of the thiol group useless. Its not. Try any water soluble surfactant. Better water soluble surface active polymer.
