in a catalytic coating experiment, steel fibers (stainless steel) will be coated with catalytic active CuO either through

a) Sol gel methode or

b) wet impregnation onto an intermediate coating

The exact surface condition of the steel fibers is unknown. In order to promote the adhesion of the sol/intermediate coating onto the surface of the steel fibers and to ensure the reproducubility of the tests, the steel fiber surface should be cleaned prior to coating.

If i wish to remove contaminants from the surface of the steel fibers surface without risking secondary contamination during the cleaning, which cleaning procedures are recommended?
