For my thesis, I am comparing the performance of a screening program between 2019 and 2020 (in the months March-July).

I want to analyze the number of people screened per month in 2019 and 2020. I have been told to use the unpaired t-test for statistical analysis, but I do not know how to properly do that in SPSS. This syntax does not seem to be correct, as there is no 'mean' in this situation:

T-TEST GROUPS=Years(2019 2020)

/MISSING=ANALYSIS

/VARIABLES=Months

/CRITERIA=CI(.95).

My data (number of people screened during that month)

2019 (N=245):

  • March: 58
  • April: 48
  • May: 58
  • June: 44
  • July: 37

2020 (N=265):

  • March: 30
  • April: 56
  • May: 55
  • June: 52
  • July: 72

Which statistical test should I use?
