Which should I choose: i) compare mean or ii) compare median for two non-normally distributed populations?

I have a set of data which is non-normally distributed for two sample populations. Through the description analysis, there's a different in the mean for both populations. Upon performing the mean comparison, there's a statistical difference. However, I am not sure which will be the best to compare, the mean or the median for the non-normally distributed population. If to compare the median, what will be the mechanism in SPSS software?
