I learned recently, that autophagy may have a protective role against the development of a number of neurodegenerative diseases. As I am working on liver diseases, with mice deficient for some autophagy receptors, i had like to know which section of the liver and the brain are suitable for histological examination.
It really depends on your model. If you are looking at Alzheimer’s disease you need to be able to see your pathological findings on the sections.
If you are just looking at morphological/pattern changes then potentially choosing something with very defined and regulated morphology, like cerebellum is a safe choice (vs smth like putamen and GP, where it's hard to clearly mark the margins). Another plus for cerebellum is presence of defined glial population--and you need the glial cells for the autophagy process.
I am not familiar with liver much, so I am sorry, can't comment on it.
Natalia Murataeva your answer helps me quite well, to explore this link between autophagy and neurodegenerative diseases that is completely new to me. So i will redirect my investigation by choosing specifically cerebellum to observe glial population. Thank you. your contribution helps me a lot.
