Hi,
We are looking at electrons, protons and ions generated from our LPP x-ray source which passes through an electrostatic analyzer before reaching the detector. Can anyone tell us, which is best to use, the electron multiplier tube or the micro channel plates?

Detector need to be windowless as proton and heavy nuclei will not penetrate anything which has a window of any sort.

MCP is a good option, working with charged particle you should work with the front side of the mcp at ground and positive gate (or just use a DC) the back side of the plate, while in photon detection option you could use both options (front side ground and back side positive vs. front side negative gated and back side grounded. The second option has advantages if you need high spatial resolution). The advantages of mcp is that you could get an online reading of your results.
Another good option is to use Fuji plates, which are calibrated for most energies, which is most useful. Take a look at: B. Hidding, G. Pretzler, M. Clever, F. Brandl, F. Zamponi, I. Uschmann, A. The disadvantage of these plates is of course that you need to read the data after the experiment is over.

EMT is relatively less expensive compared with MCP. if using MCP go for CSI deposition on the front surface as it helps for the X-ray photons. Fast counting is possible in both.

Since you are in LPP I have assumed that all of your measurement are time integrated. If this is not the case, there is a lot of information about short mcp gatings.

Regarding front surface CSI deposited mcp, you should remember that CsI although highly sensitive, is also a highly hygroscopic photocathode. So if you choose to use it, very short exposure to air atmosphere.
According to my experience, CuI is also very sensitive - at least for photon measurements ( you could find data on that on the literature).
