Hello,

I'm trying to understand what is the circuit that leads to the formation of theta oscillations in the hippocampus. I read a lot of articles, but can't find out a specific answer. I'm specifically focused on the medial septum and the hippocampus. What I understood for the moment is that GABAergic neurons from the medial septum, which are PV-expressing neurons, are targeting GABAergic interneurons in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. The latter one are then disinhibiting the pyramidal cells, but is it a direct connection between the GABAergic interneurons or is it an indirect one?

Thank you in advance,

Best.
