Suggest me some possible media for growing E coli isolates with presence and absence of toxic metal ions. I want to design a study where different concentration of metal ions will be used to observe the change in growth of E coil isolates.
If you really wish to probe metal ions then I would suggest you use a minimal medium, such as M9 (although nearly any other minimal media is probably ok). You could probably do it in a rich medium like LB but it would probably be better to use a defined minimal medium since LB will have varying amount of different ions already.
LB agar can be supplemented with different concentrations of various metals for initial studies and then you can use M9 minimal medium. The response will be a little different in the two.
