From my perspective, understanding both areas is equally important. The main point is to find the intersection between those two disciplines, and, I would like to add, Social Psychology.
If you are willing to understand how people behave in this type of situation, I believe that Psychoanalysis could also give you a significant viewpoint on that topic, primarily because we are driven much more by our Unconscious motives than usually in that situations.
One of the most significant tasks is to observe human behavior from different aspects, social, neuroscientific, psychological (psychoanalytic) and you will understand much deeply our current situation.
All these are equally important. Human behavioir is complex, hence we need several branches of psychology to understand it. I would also reccomend to have a look at personality paychology.
