I like to have the score in publications highest among the scores in different factors. The reason is that the score in publications is the most representative and reliable estimate of the researcher's contribution to science.

Dear Makinde E. O. , what I think important is how much you get benefited and how much you contribute to help others using RG in different ways.

But, when I come to your specific question, I have seen the following facts:

1) High RG scores with few publications (eg 3) and more Q&A,

2) High RG score with more publication and less Q&A,

3) High RG with more publications and no Q&A,

4) High RG with more publication and more @&A... etc;

From this I can say that all the points you mentioned are contributary for getting higher RG. I am also believe that, sharing knowledge's and experiences are important in addition to publications. I am sure others are also thinking in this way.

Parallel to all trends is good for the overall balance

Fixed points are obtained from scientific publications, floating points based on the recommendations of the questions and answers oscillating, and may disappear with the withdrawal of the person from follow-up, and most importantly not points as much as scientific communication

All are equally important

Publication comes at first, questions and answers come second, but they are all important

Every contributions are important in the score point of view. Good researcher also provide the solution for others problem and questions also. Due to this, we will get a relationship and collaboration also.

Publications , answer, then question are important in researchgate score.

Thank you for sharing such a significant question. The answers to this question are important for me too.

I personally believe premium should be placed on publications before any other factors search as questions and answers. However, it seems the other way round; there are some researchers who answers only questions and their score is so high beyond imagination. This has to be addressed by the research gate team.

Every key item for evaluation is important. The Q&A section of RG makes the platform interactive and academically refreshing. I think the evenness in the scoring based on the various key items must be maintained.

Publications are always better. I think you will never get a negative point from publications but from questions and answers you could very well get negative points without knowing it

Publications are the most important factor.

For a researcher, publications are important. But due to the special nature of RG, here, every contributions are relevant.

Regarding your question dear @Makinde, I share the opinion of dear @Tatsuo. Publications are the most important among all contributions. Answers follow the publications, then Question comes to the scene. Do not forget that RG score is just the measure of activity at RG community, not the valid scientific measure at all.

This depends on the satisfaction of participants on RG -- sometimes increase of RG score by interaction during Q&A makes one feel happy and other times may be increasing publications and citations etc. Initially I saw my RG score increasing with Publications, then via interactions (Q&A) and then again by Publications past 02 years and now I am back in discussions again.

I put all my publications (>90) on RG, but that did not improve my RG Score, So I realized that if I want a better RG Score, I need to answer questions. So that is what I do now, and my score has improved.

Inspite of that I believe that my worth as a researcher comes from my works, not my answers.

I made a comparison of my RG score with that of a colleague. I have more publications than him. Unfortunately, he actively participates in debates (questions / answers). So his RG score is much higher than mine!

Such answer has deserved 10 recommendation. Bravo for academic plagiarism. For such academics, RG score is the most important!

The question is whether someon comes to RG to build reputation or to learn and help others? If the latter two are the main goals, RG score is such unimportant. One shold build good relations, learn and help - if it is acknowledged by the community it is reassuring, but not really important, let aone a goal in itself. One shold build himslef/herself, reputatio may be a consequence only, never the reverse.

Dear @ Emmanuel Vijayanand Murray , with publications RG score increases more via publishing in IF or high IF journals. We can have a balance and need to to take part in RG discussions, at many times we learn good skills and feel happy too while seeing beautiful sketches and quotes etc, as well as sharing our experiences. We also get many a reprints and as I experienced - I got collaborative review article with researchers from Italy, Egypt, China, Thailand and others via RG.

I fully share your desire to point a finger at any plagiarism, because this is scientific corruption in my understanding. Now I would like to give an example of my personal involvement, where this kind of "scientific activity" made me very angry, but I just did not speak then, just did not find any words. I can not believe that you question about what one respected scientist mentioned that as far as I know ( Dear Parisa) while she empeshysis that as I far as I know and then put sth that she believes!

I as a human and person search what does it mean and if it is plagiarism and astonishingly find it very common!

"As far as I know" means what it says, something like "according to my knowledge". It is what we say in our own language and as you said is exactly other sentence : Scientists must give talks, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know what is your problem, maybe the recommendation and others like the way what she says but you as an academic person is under question as you accuse others while you write exactly the others statements. Please accept my apology but I think the question of dear

Makinde E. O. is how we could talk and communicate with each other , and every one is free to put what she/he finds rational and the art of selecting admirable phrase in answering is not sth that you want put under question!

your phrase "The question is whether someone comes to RG to build a reputation or to learn and help others?" sounds very loud, nevertheless RG should not substitute universities and sponosors for the purpose of teaching and helping others. RG - is primarily a scientific social network for living communication between scientists and has no other goals. If such communication can benefit other scientists (especially young people) in order to acquire knowledge, then this mission justifies itself, yet one should not think that RG is obliged to teach and help someone. RG gives all the same opportunities for scientific contacts, however, how these contacts will be embodied in active activity are the personal problems of everyone.

Dear @Armaghan, nothing surprisingly, you stand in defense of your boss and co-author. Why @Parisa does not answer and comment? Is it so difficult to paste a link leading to the original answer!? She has done it in many discussion rooms.

I have recommended your answer, so you do have 10 recommendations. At least, it is original answer.

I have learnt:

Better not to look about the RG score, number of reads, number of recommendations etc.

If you are having a recently published article, upload it.

If you find interesting question/s - write your comments.

Thanks for your warning and mentioned many things, I would like to answer only a few of them as I respect you and all others in RG. First of all I am not Dr Armaghan boss, we have no boss here in RG! in many years ago I honorably supervising her thesis and now she has a very successful job and her grade is much higher than me in society and I really admire her. Yes you are right I wrote as far as I know and then put very well-written statement which I deeply believe in and maybe in other rooms have done the same , here we are not in a position of judging or accusing or even being prejudices of someone else. I myself always try to learn from my dear colleagues and friends and as english language is not my mother language sometimes give help and try to choose the nearest answer according to my belief!

Now I have learned from you that even in expressing my feeling and my own experience I should write only by my own language as probably here in RG some one may be not like to put my idea by english format in other site and take his time to label others , but deeply and honestly appreciate you for your warning as in my mother language as dear Dr Armaghan said we used to utilize very famous words for communicate and it is not acceptable for you or maybe a few respected friends. Today after very busy day I found out about your and Dr Kermanshah points of view. Please accept my apology if my own way of answering and talking make misunderstanding for you. From now , I only use my own words and if agree and believe on sth , I will give the reference exactly such a book and article and advise all my friends that Rg is not a free site and we should only make all sentences by ourselves and never use as far as I know or sth like that.

In my opinion, it is not important within the researchgate to collect points, so much as it is important to have the answer to the question or publication of the article or even to ask the question scientifically and in it from the knowledge Which provide benefit to researchers.

Points are calculated by peer assessment of the article, the answer and the question.

All the criteria used for scoring appear to have equal rating, the impact factor of publications seem to affect its scoring.

Many researchers have large number of paper contributions, but low RG score. It can be inferred from this that RG score is based on the quality of research. Results of good researches are published in good journals and this attract many researchers, thereby leading to High RG score. Hence, I want to say that for good researched work, both of them are better because they are intertwined
