This problem is a multiphysic problem and a turbulent flow of electrolyte with ionic species flow in the electrowinning cell continuously. under the electric field reaction on cathode and anode occur. on the other magnetic field effect on the electrolyte (magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) ). I want to know which software can model this turbulent flow of electrolyte in this multiphysics problem better, comsol or fluent?
If you are not familiar with writing UDFs in Fluent to include source terms into the momentum equations, I would say use COMSOL. You will need to put less effort to include the electro-magnetic interactions. But you should know that Fluent is much better in turbulent flow simulations.
Fluent is better for turbulent modelling. It provides three methods for modeling turbulence in multiphase flows within the context of the 📷- 📷 models. In addition, it also provides two turbulence options within the context of the Reynolds stress models (RSM).- the mixture turbulence model (the default), the dispersed turbulence model, or a per-phase turbulence model.
No doubt that Fluent is mature and has vast community who is using it but when it comes to multiphysics its a hard job compare to Comsol as mentioned by Ankit. I would suggest that if you have access to both software try Comsol first and if the finite element technique is working good for your problem then Comsol is better option but literature shows that finite volume works better for flows.
