MLL gene has been named so for a very long time... Recently, the official name for this gene has been changed to KMT2A ("lysine (K)-specific methyltransferase 2A").
I understand that this new name better describes the function of the gene, but the old one, "mixed lineage leukemia", also does (although in a clinical way).
Personally, I would vote keeping the MLL name ... I think that it is a case similar to BCR (breakpoint cluster region) ...
I wonder: what does the community think about this? does anyone care about?

I think if the name is officially changed in the nomenclature by a representative body of science, the best thing to do is to use the new name. Recently, the 'international union for pharmacology nomenclature' changed the name of an atypical chemokine receptor D6 to ACKR2. And since then, our group has been using the new name in our publications. Although still a lot of authors are using the old name D6. I think in this case, especially in the clinical scenario, MLL- rearranged ALL will carry on till the new WHO nomenclature for leukaemias changes it to KMT2A- rearranged ALL.
