Most of the medical colleges strategies, focused on clinical skills, and ignoring the communication skills. which are very important skills to communicate with teachers, colleagues, and patient, As well they should encourage students to ask why, how, where, and when. this can be achieved by training to participate in open discussion.

It also depends on the educational strategy of medical institutes also and on the skill of teaching faculty to promote inquiry competencies and promote students active participation in interactive teaching. the young students always interested in acquiring inquiry competencies providing they get opportunity.

i feel that the best strategy may be to involve students in curriculum planning and design the educational strategy in a manner that the maximum students participation and potential is utilized. The problem solving approach in a participatory manner may be one such option

You may want to review Cutrer, et al.'s article in the January 2017 issue of Academic Medicine, entitled "Fostering the Development of Master Adaptive Learners:  A Conceptual Model to Guide Skill Acquisition in Medical Education". 

Beyond this article, a number of techniques are thought to increase students' competency to be self-directed learners, including minimal-faculty-input processes such as problem-based learning (PBL) and more directive exercises such as hypothesis-driven diagnosis taught in clinical skills courses.    

In the changing era of globalization, many students centered educational strategy are being developed by medical educationist at various places. in the background of the present question, i am of opinion that while promote such strategy , we must take students viewpoint also in consideration. it will certainly help in promoting inquiry driven competencies.

my colleagues and I created a guide for teaching resources of health professionals titled: Cultural Competency and Health Literacy Primer. The primer is the first teaching guide designed for multiple health professions, incorporating both cultural and health literacy competency to improve health equity by improving health literacy and communication satisfaction.

The primer contains a conceptual framework, 6 modules and resources for teaching. It was built on work of multiple groups in multiple health professionals.

The primer was created in response to state legislation and in partnership between the University of Maryland School of Public Health and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities. You can locate at:

Let the student search for both Western medicine and Acupuncture or Eastern medicine for a same diseases treatment and results. So, patients will have a brighter future to enjoy a humane treatment.

Inquiry is one of several communication-related competencies. It is best developed if the learner is in a setting that stimulates deliberate practice. That, in turn, requires many opportunities for the learner to engage in, or practice, inquiry in interactive settings, with a coach, and feedback. Anders Ericsson has written, brilliantly I believe, about this approach and how it is used by actors, other performers, sports stars, and even persons in management. His latest book is “Peak” and it is interesting reading.

I fear that in the health professions we do not provide enough opportunities for inquiry, that when we do we have not got enough good coaches, and the learners do not get as helpful feedback as they need.

Well, I think that it is not only the strategic problem in the education system. It also related to insurance reimbursement.

Many clinics that hire many nurses and assistants, use many fancy test machines, locate in deluxe building. Their overhead is high. So, they need to treat more patients per day in order to cover the cost. Therefore, the load of the inquiry is on the nurse instead of on the doctor's shoulder. If the insurance can pay doctors the inquiry time, then, it is feasible in practice.
