Open access journals have wide reachability among individual researchers. Publishing OA journals is a good step to popularise our articles. But, Nowadays, majority of the open access journals are predatory journals. They demand very huge article processing charges from authors for publishing their articles. The review process is also not good in many of such journals. So, in my opinion, one should never choose a journal to publish his article simply because it is an open access journal.
There are many good open access journals which have clear and straight forward editorial policies which have nominal or no APC. We may choose such journal for our publications.

Touch high impact factorwith your investigation is a dream for all researcher in the world, but the world conception is changing, the science volumen grow every day and it's very dificult to increase all of this. Share the science is the best choice to give humanity better and/or different ways to resolve problems. For example, Health is the first component of human develope, it's a social product and a proccess guide to creation for all and good of all; so if we can guide all health research to open access for the mass of patients, researchers... the world of health science could be different.
In summary for me touching common mass through open access journal is the best choice.
It's my humble opinion. Best regards and good luck.
Touching high impact factor --- is more important as researches published in high impact factor journals (may be open access), definitely have excellent results which further can be converted into applicable technology. Through technology, it reaches to common mass.
Directly, Common mass do not read or use researches published in high impact journals or open access journals.
Dear friends, I think that the best thing to do is to take up every opportunity to publish, whether it's in open access or the high impact factor journal, if we are so privileged. And continue to share our research with colleagues, students and all who give a listening ear. Let's be realistic. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. In my field of biological sciences, I have come across very important research that were published as conference proceedings. From mobile.
I would not exclude any of proposed publishing approach. OA Journals which bring more visibility is sometimes more important to me , as I am doing practical research in order to apply them. Many contacts and business after publishing.
High impact factor touching is sometimes needed for academic career! One may say it is for pure scientific work!
HIgh impact factor journal means high publishing charge. Research work not only for upper class scholars, but also for middle class students. So open access journal, which does not require paper purchase charge and also have minimal publishing charge is better.
The success of Google and Weki has proved that knowledge facilitation is what people require.
With technological boom and concern on protecting nature (felling of trees for paper), online submission and transactions are best. However, it should not be charged, and I am personally against using it for monetary gains.
Hence RESEARCH GATE is my best choice for publishing.
Publications in high impact factor journal means high quality applicable research. Researches published in high impact factor journals get more attention from researchers, industry, technologists, etc.
Quality research leads to innovations/discoveries/inventions which directly or indirectly benefits the society by way of developing new technology/application or improving existing technology/application.
See a good thread of similar importance, through link!
The correlation between a good paper and a hight impact factor is not 100%.
In terms of frequentist theory of probabilities this is compatible with:
not all good papers could be accepted for that high impact journals, as well as a some
bad papers have a chance to be there!
Statistics shows that possibility....so the best is to have attention to what we read and not having prejudices to accept everything as good or everything as bad, depending solely on the source ...
Scientific publications barely affect the mass. Science journalism do!
I prefer journals with impact factors and I do not wish to publish in predatory open access journals. However, we should note that there are open access journals with impact factors. It is not black or wight (open access vs. high impact factor journals, there is an gray area.
Please refer to the link for list of open access journals with impact factor

This is very fine article dear @Abhijit : New Scopus Article Metrics: A better way to benchmark articles!
“We believe no single metric tells the whole story — you need a basket of metrics to make informed decisions,” says Michael Habib, Scopus Senior Product Manager, Elsevier. “By combining citation and alternative metrics, this new Article Metrics module will provide a comprehensive view of both the impact of and community engagement with an article.”
