I want to measure the quantitative composition of porcelain powders, using XRF. I want to know if anyone has expierience with setting up a fitting method or knows which predefined to use best. I am aiming for 3 sigma area below 2 percent, but precision is not the biggest problem.
I am working with an Oxford Instruments xsurpreme8000 using a tungsten x ray tube and so far the results are disastrous. I am using the predefined method XSMET-05C.V1 and calibrate with 6 standards consisting out of compounds of all measured elements, being: Al,Si,Ca,Mg, Fe, Na,S and P. It would be really helpful if anybody could at least tell me which elements have to be corrected with additional intestines, intensity etc. I have already checked different methods but alas I found no one which contained my composition of elements. Any feedback is appreciated very much.

At first I want to know few thing about your setup , then I can suggest my views to carryout the experiment. First what is your detector and its resolution, what is the distance between sample and Detector, and what filter you are using for spectrum filtration purpose etc. It is a very common problem for detection of elements like Na, Al, Si etc using even high resolution detector like Si(Li). Actually we are using AXIL software, and I have no idea about your soft ware. After getting the above points, I can suggest you the procedure to carryout the experiment to detect almost maximum elements.

at first I am just a student aiming for his Bachelor of Science.
I really thank you for the answer, though the problem is nearly solved now an accuracy of 2-3 % is not bad for my purposes. For exact quantitative analysis I will use Xray diffaction or AAS if necessary. Nevertheless I will check the setup of the XRF again, for I do not want to give you wrong facts. I am using a Si(Li) detector witch accuracy is defined in the software as 0,002 Wt% but I am not sure if this is the maximum accuracy. I am working with the xspupreme8000 since two weeks now and have still things left to discover. The software is from Oxford instruments and is really user friendly- but I have to look into that topic. Also I have to look up which filter the istrument uses when none of the addidtional ones is used - for that is what I am doing at the moment. I really appreciate your feedback, and thank for the help you are offering.

I suggest you emission transmission method. It's a semi-quantitative method, using intermediates thickness of your sample.
