I value my family (wife, children, siblings, etc.) more than my profession. I can change profession, but cannot change my family. Without my family supporting me, I wouldn't have made it this far in my profession. Therefore, my family is more important than my profession.

I would say that both should not be compared on the same scale. Profession is as important as family in their respective sense. 

Which comes first, family or profession?

I think it depends on an individual's priority or needs - some might choose family whereas others might choose profession first.  Moreover, this priority or needs might change from time to time or from younger to older age, turn of an event e.g. becoming jobless, lost of family members, wealthy enough to retire earlier etc.

When it is a question then the answer is family. But I think everyone should trade-off between family life and professional life. Both are necessary because without one the other is meaningless. If it is hardly necessary then you may change or switch your job but you cann't change your family. The more the family breaks the more the instability and imbalance are created in the society.

With the rise  in profession, u need to trade off with family time. Moreover, expectations never ends so trade off may go even broader.

family comes first, all that we offer from the effort to work and research, as a result is for the small and large family, the family is Motherland, for the family values what we got , achieved and obtained as a result of the sacrifice and the family. and give them back by more work

by heart its really true. Do we really value our family.? If it is so then why do we sacrifice our small and big moments for some conditional job issues.?

Work life means ‘life relating to a person’s employment’. Employment may be a job in an organization or a self-employment such as doing a small business or farming (Opatha, 2010). Family life means ‘life relating to a person’s family’.  Family is a human unit that consists of parents and their children (Opatha, 2010). Balance means ‘the steadiness, importance or strength that you have between two things’. Here two things are your work life and family life (Opatha, 2010). Balance between work life and family life is defined as the degree to which you fulfill demands coming from your employment and your family (Opatha, 2010).

Then the question is "How to establish work life balance?.

Amstrong (2009) wrote:

“The IRS (2002) considers that ‘Flexible working is considered the most practical solution to establishing an effective work–life balance.’ The term ‘flexible working ‘covers flexi-time, home working, part-time working, compressed working weeks, annualized hours, job sharing and term-time only working. It also refers to special leave schemes that provide employees with the freedom to respond to a domestic crisis or to take a career break without jeopardizing their employment status. However, IRS noted that ‘creating an environment in which staff who opt to work flexibly and those who raise work–life issues will require a cultural shift in many organizations, backed by senior level support’.”

Theoretically its very correct but in ground reality very complicated. Work life balance is a challenge. Generally when we lean on one, miss out another. moreover, all successful professional are not always good family people. Exception may exist but its a wild truth.

My opinion is, it is hard for anyone to say a solution for your question. A strict answer will never please anyone. I would say you should play it like children playing seesaw in parks, 50% Job and 50% Family.

Of-course its difficult but we should manage its our only one life that we have on earth and we live for family. I know many people who have buried their dreams of having abroad jobs just for family but still its everyones wish to schedule the time spend on family/work.

work-life balance . Everyone belongs to a family and though it is rational to think that family comes first this might vary depending on the context,culture and situation of the person.
