I need to perform an experiment in which I have to put both glycerol and lactose. My doubt is which of these carbon sources will be consumed first by E. coli cells?
I assume it is lactose, but did not find any particular literature supporting my assumption.
If any publication that highlights this comparison, please provide link for the same.

The preferred carbon sources hierarchy, as pointed Nikoloay can be found in that paper, however it lacks glycerol. Also no work that I am aware of focuses on your question.
In an earlier work from the Alon group they show that while Lactose or glycerol alone support the growth of E. coli, their combination increases the growth rate of the same bacteria. and Supp data).A recent study from the Tang lab, studied theoretically and experimentally the co-utilization of carbon sources in bacteria, and gives more insight on the topic.
