We all know the theory-practice gap also in management research. For me I would like to know what are the most well-known concepts or theories that were adopted by practitioners and why? E.g. it could be Porter‘s 5 Forces or Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas. But are there other ones? Maybe older or newer?
My view is general systems theory is very important.
General systems theory
According to Wright & Snell (1991) skills and abilities are treated as inputs from the environment; people behaviours are treated as throughput and employee satisfaction and performance are treated as output.

Porter's Five Forces model, identifies and analyzes five competitive forces that shape every industry, and helps determine an industry's weaknesses and strengths. These forces are:
1. Competition in the industry;
2. Potential of new entrants into the industry;
3. Power of suppliers;
4. Power of customers;
5. Threat of substitute products.

- Service-dominant Logic by Vargo7Lusch (2004), a new perspective of goods and services
for customer centricity by orientation on value in use.
- Service Systems thinking by Spohrer (2008) as an abstraction of service thinking and service science. A basis for every kind of service design.
I think, Contingency theory, Chaos theory, Theory X and Y, and Systems theory are the most popular management theories, which addresses best practices in HR motivations.

But what makes me curious is that commentators refer to theories which they (!) think is relevant for practice. Maybe you can elaborate, if you have actually seen practitioners „using“ them. What were the situations/application fields? For me its interesting how such thinking diffuses in real life. Are their maybe some anecdotes from science- industry projects? Did you built tools for practitioners to make theories/concepts more understandable?
