I'm producing a map with several habitat typologies (14) and it's a struggle to find a colour combination that would be fully colour-blind friendly. QGIS offers the possibility to check your image visualizing it as colour blind people see it but when you have many colours this tool is insufficient.

It can be difficult to find a palette when there are so many classes. You appear to be aware of the broad colour palettes that are more suitable, but it can be difficult to get sufficent differentiation among classes with 14 needed. I would suggest to try and use textures/patterns as an alternative solution.
As an alternative to the QGIS tool for checking suitablility, if you prefer to just use a standard palette, the below link provides an alternative tool that can work very well.
