I am modelling Hydraulic plunger load on the pipeline. the load variation is linear over the time. I am using Explict step eith linear amplitude curve for a certain time period. The problem with static step is it cannot solve the non linearities that arise when the load is increased over a certain limit. Please teel me whether my ction is justified or not.

which kind of nonlinearities arise during loading? I would generally suggest to use implicit procedures for quasi-static loading if no significant nonlinearities are present. Maybe if you provide more information about the model, you could get more specific responses.

It is important to know that static problems concern the mechanical systems at rest independently of time.
I recommend to use an explicit or implicit step in Abaqus, it will be more efficient to deal with incremental problems.
