Actually i have prepared carbon dots using lactose and checked its fluorescence by preparing carbon dots solution in distilled water. then, another carbon dots solution was prepared in distilled water and phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and fluorescence was checked. I observed the shift in fluorescence peak in carbon dots in PBS as compared to carbon dots in water.
Can anybody justify the shift in fluorescence peak for above phenomenon.
Hi Abhimanyu, shifts in fluorescent peaks is a fact of life when working with fluorophores.
Generally, fluorophores in ionic media have a red shift while non ionic media have a blue shift.

Again what is basic reason for the shift of peak in ionic and nontoxic media??

Generally, red shift is generated when ions bump into exited fluorophores and cause them to emit light at lower wavelengths.
