Could I suggest that seek help from a vitreo-retinal surgeon who in the course of a vitrectomy will remove the vitreous from the eye, some of these patients will have diabetic retinopathy [many with advanced disease - if you are looking for a retinopathy marker, should be present in excess in these patients] and others will have no retinopathy. There may well be other patients with background retinopathy who are undergoing a vitrectomy for other reasons such as a retinal detachment or macular hole. I trust that this helps
Hi Anne, if you want we can collaborate, the big issue is that we are in Mexico City, are you interested? www.apec.org.mx (Association to Prevent Blindness in Mexico, Department of Research)
I am a vitreo-retinal surgeon in Lisbon, Portugal. I can easily collect vitreous samples, store in Biobanc and from here they are easily available by request.
